Maternity Boudoir Shoot at Horton House Ruins, Jekyll Island, Georgia

I’ve known Paige since college.  We both majored in photography and now both have successful photography businesses of our own and often work together.  When Paige told me that she was pregnant with her second child, I told her that I had to do her maternity pictures!  She was open to any ideas that I had and I’m so glad that she let me carry out my vision for this shoot.

I’ve always loved approaching maternity shoots with a boudoir style.  It is such a magical time in a woman’s life and I think it’s important to capture the beauty of the body during this time.  It is truly amazing what our bodies can do and in my opinion, there is no need to cover up a beautiful pregnant belly in photographs.

We wanted to keep our shoot really simple and organic.  We borrowed a garden print chiffon robe from one of my favorite designers, Domenica Domenica, and chose the Horton House Ruins in Jekyll Island, Georgia for our location.  The openness of the space and the texture of the old walls were perfect for the airy and whimsical mood that I wanted to portray.  I did Paige’s makeup myself and kept it pretty natural but added some pastel purples to make her brown eyes pop and also to echo the tones of the garden robe and peachy walls.

I’m in love with how these pictures turned out.  Paige looks radiant, glowing, and confident.  I hope to inspire more women to embrace their pregnant bodies and take a more boudoir-esque approach to their own maternity shoots.  Pregnancy is such a brief but special chapter of our lives and it deserves to be celebrated with gorgeous images!
